Founded in 1983, The Football League Trophy, more commonly known as the The Johnstone's Paint Trophy is a unique Cup competition contested by clubs in League One and League Two of the English Football league.

Teams are split into either the Northern or Southern section depending on geographic location and play in single elimination knock-out games against teams in the same section. The winners of the Northern and Southern section play in the final at Wembley in April.
